90th St. Giles School Anniversary Celebration 2019

January 20, 2019

A Wonderful Sunday with Cardinal Cupich!

On Sunday, January 20, 2019, we were very blessed to host Cardinal Blase Cupich as he presided over our 90th Anniversary Mass of St. Giles School! Many current and former school families, alumni, parishioners and faculty filled the Church for this momentous occasion. During his homily, Cardinal Cupich thanked the school administration and religious education staff for continuing the important work of educating the youth – the future of the Catholic Church – about Jesus and sharing with them how their faith has made a difference. The teen choir, composed of school and religious education alumni, sang beautifully and the Cardinal thanked them for being a part of this Mass.

Patrick C., ‘19, reflected on his many years at St. Giles School and presented a 90th anniversary polo to the Cardinal, who joked that black is his favorite color and he will wear it proudly. The Cardinal shook hands and talked with many people as they exited the Church. Afterwards, Fr. Carl took the Cardinal to McDonough Hall for a reception in his honor. The Cardinal wandered around to all of the tables, making conversation with guests, young and old. He took some photos and then had to depart. It was a lovely Sunday morning and a true honor to have him here.
