DEFINITIONS:

Role of Leadership Team: Interconnectedness, with own team and with others; identifies new leadership; assesses needs of groups and works to increase effectiveness of programs; assists in goal setting with individual ministries – correlated with parish mission; develops leadership formation training for parish.

Each Leadership Team consists of:

Director: A staff person who gathers the group, initiates, handles crises, makes decisions and is responsible for the functioning of the ministries.

PPC Representative: Ensures communication to Parish Council on ministry issues, more accurate picture of parish status, ownership for health and vitality of ministries in parish, establishes two way communication between Parish Council and leadership team.

Co-mission Leader: Action oriented with ministry teams, hands on support, two way communication between ministry groups and leadership team, identifies issues and challenges.

The role of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) – develops mission and vision of the parish, develops overarching parish goals, looks at the large picture issues and overall concerns. The PPC is an advisor to the pastor.

2010 Parish Goals ˆ Back To Top

Over the last several months, there have been new planning efforts based on the parishioner feedback from the pastor transition sessions that were held last fall 2008. The PPC reviewed the feedback and the recommendations related to the hopes, dreams and challenges for St. Giles. A number of themes emerged and many relate to preserving and enhancing a sense of community, inclusiveness and commitment within our parish community. This past spring 2009, the PPC also became aware of a growing financial issue as we began to experience our first operating deficit in five years. The parish has operated leanly for many years with a limited staff and so the change in financial condition is an important issue for us to clearly address this year. Based on the parish values identified through the listening sessions and the immediate parish financial need as we enter 2009-2010, the following three goals became evident:

  • Welcoming - growing and enhancing all parishioners’ sense of belonging and creating an ongoing ministry of welcoming at St. Giles,
  • Finances - conducting a communication campaign and Offertory Appeal this fall 2009 to help address the current parish operating and capital needs deficit, and
  • Environmental Stewardship - providing opportunities to learn in a meaningful and practical way what our faith teaches about environmental stewardship so that we can put into practice new ways of becoming greater stewards of the earth.

These are three goals that were presented to the members of the commissions. They have been asked to think about how these goals can be incorporated into their ministry/ organization and to also consider a goal specific to their ministry/organization that they would like to work on this coming year 2010.
