Faith Formation - Gift Discernment Workshops

Oliver Wendell Holmes once said: "Most people go to their graves with their music still inside them."

Facilitators are always needed. If you have a gift for helping others find their gifts, consider being a facilitator for this important ministry. The time commitment is either in spring for adults or fall for teens. Your commitment will vary depending on the number of workhops you are able to facilitate. Training and materials are provided.

ADULT WORKSHOPS ˆ Back To Top

Each Easter Season, St. Giles offers workshops to guide individuals towards understanding their gifts from God and identifying ways to give those gifts away to others. These workshops are designed to assist participants in evaluating their own lives at home, in community, at work, and in their faith life. Just as we are all called by our Baptism to serve and to be uniquely gifted, so too are the activities. Each activtiy and movie clip considers our giftedness from a different perspective. While some results are more obvious than others, every participant will gain something from the workshop that will benefit their lives and the lives of others.

The workshops are two hours and require approximately one hour of reading and homework prior to the session. Participants must pre-register with both a first and second choice date. Watch the Arrow in February for dates and times.

8TH GRADE CONFIRMATION CANDIDATE WORKSHOPS ˆ Back To Top

Confirmation candidate workshops are similar to the adult workshops but with a teen point of view. This workshop is offered in the fall as Candidates prepare to engage in Confirmation service activities. Finding the time to offer service and understanding what service to offer is a challenge for teens. Gift Discernment provides a means for understanding ones giftedness and offers examples of giving those gifts away in love rather than requirement. Workshops are two hours in length. Unlike the adult sessions, there is no homework prior to these sessions.

As the preparation for the Confirmation candidates begins at the end of their 7th grade year our parish begins the process by hosting GIFT DISCERNMENT WORKSHOPS for the candidates. These GIFT WORKSHOPS are especially for our Confirmation candidates and provide the opportunity for the candidate to discover or verify what gifts / talents they have.

The GIFT DISCERNMENT process also aids the candidates in the decision of what type of service they should focus on for the coming year.
