CELEBRATION OF THE EASTER SACRAMENTS

The first week of November 2008, five persons, strangers to each other met in the parlor of the Parish Center after making inquiry as to how they might become members of the Catholic Church. We all set out, inquirers and the new director, to become this year’s candidate community. From 7:15 to 8:30 pm most Wednesday nights we grew together in faith and knowledge of Holy Church. We studied how one prays, and examined signs, symbols and sacraments. Our early meditation was with the Nicene Creed. We referred to it at most sessions. We also reflected on the coming Sunday readings using the text: “At Home With the Word.” Two of the Elect wrote reflections in the Path to Prayer booklet.

Several Kodak moments will stay with us. There was our trip to St Rita High school for the Rite of Elect. We saw the immensity and diversity of the Archdiocesan church. Then we all attended the parish communal penance service. Those preparing to be baptized did not have to have the sacrament but they came to be with the two candidates who did go to first reconciliation. The RCIA process was a channel that opened onto new and deeper relationships.

Said Lisamarie Rodriguez: It is a great feeling to have been through such an important part of this journey with each one of you. It is very important for me to always remember my path towards my closeness with God and who I shared my most deepest thoughts of Him with. I am forever going to remember this day and hold it close in heart. Thanks again for making me feel welcomed.

We look forward to the wonderful ways the Risen Christ will make Himself known to us in this Easter season and beyond.
