St. Giles School hosted the annual curriculum fair on Wednesday, January 20th. The seventh and eighth graders had been working for months on their science and history projects for this fair. Seventh graders had to come up with and complete a science project which they then documented on a display board. Eighth graders researched a historical topic, and presented their findings either on a display board or in a documentary. Grades 1st through 6th visited the fair in the morning, and at night families and friends came. Projects were judged in the afternoon and the winners announced that night. Science fair winners are Jessica Jacobs-Li, “How the Material of an Arrow`s Shaft Affects Penetration”, Caroline Planek, “How Much Mass Can an Eggshell Arch Hold?”, Pat McGee, “What is the Most Effective Temperature and Pressure for Shooting a Tennis Ball Out of a Potato Cannon”, and Claire Carey and Natalie Haber, “The Effect of Diet on the Growth and Reproduction of Red Wigglers.” The winners of the history fair are Caroline Herman and Julianne Marotta, “The Great Chicago Fire of 1871”, Austin Zalewski, “International Harvester: Innovation and Change”, Samantha Gerace and Josephine Schneider, “Tap History and Its Innovators”, Grace Zimmerman, “The French Revolution”, Grace Lipo and Jordan Harris, “Remember the Ladies”, Bobby Planek, “Democracy in Ancient Greece and America”, and Kiley Delaney, “Our Lady of the Angels: Effect on School Fire Codes.” All of the winning science projects will advance to Regionals, as will the history fair projects which had subjects that were local. Thanks to the junior high Social Studies and Science teachers, Mrs. Galise and Mrs. Lofgren, and all those who judged the projects.
