Building the Kingdom of God
The first Mass of the 2010-2011 school year was a great celebration, and was attended by students, faculty, and parents alike. Fr. Jim celebrated the Mass and, as always, included his beloved back pack in the homily. Going with this year’s theme, Fr. Jim gave us tools to help build the Kingdom of God. These included a cross, a Bible, and virtues that were given to each of the classrooms. He also gave a new perspective to the Sermon on the Mount. With focusing on the small details, like how Jesus sat while teaching, he gave the story more meaning for the students and helped integrate the Beatitudes into the school year. Many students participated in the Mass, whether it was the 8th grade singing their first Mass or the new 4th graders reading the petitions.
As part of the tradition new students were welcomed by a blessing from all the congregation. The Mass gave a great start to the school year, which will be Kingdom of God and the Beatitudes.
Jumping for Giles!
At the first pep rally of the year Jumping for Giles was the theme carried out in the cheers performed by the kindergarten all the way to 8th grade.
With a new goal set for $115,000.00, the whole school turned out to see the Lion, perform their cheers, and learn of all the rewards given for money earned.
The students were led in the theme song, Jump! by Van Halen, by Mrs. Peotzel and 8th grader Madison Tunney.
Representatives from every home room were chosen to demonstrate the theme by jumping rope through the song.
The cheers varied from the kindergarten's pom-poms to the 7th grade’s unique choreography and cheers.
Students left the gym ready to collect money and jump for Giles on September 24th.
