Children’s Liturgy of the Word is offered every Sunday at 9:30 am, except when a Family and Faith Liturgy is celebrated. Children in kindergarten and up are invited to assemble after the Opening Prayer to receive a blessing as they dismiss to celebrate the Liturgy of the Word with their leader. This ministry assists children in grades k-3 to understand the Sunday scripture readings by exploring them from a child’s perspective.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word offers the children of our parish the opportunity to “celebrate their faith more fully” by sharing the weekly Scriptures using simplified texts from the Children’s Lectionary. The leader utilizes the scriptures from the Children’s Lectionary for that week and guides the children to a greater awareness of God’s presence in their lives through discussion, song, and prayer. The children return to the assembly during the Presentation of the Gifts to celebrate the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
Teams of adults are now being formed to lead the children in the celebration of the Liturgy of the Word.
NO EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED AND TRAINING IS PROVIDED.
TEAMS ARE ASKED TO COMMIT TO ONE SUNDAY A MONTH.
Contact the Religious Education & Youth Ministry Office at 708-383-4185 for more details or to volunteer.
“The purpose is to enable the children to see that the Bible is not just words or stories, but is about God’s actions in the lives of God’s people and to assist them in interpreting the events in their own lives.”
