WHAT IS FOSTERING FAITH?
Fostering Faith Catechist Certification (FFCC), program leading to Archdiocesan Catechist Certification, assists catechists, who work with children, teens or adults, by deepening the knowledge and skills needed for the catechetical ministry.
WHAT IS A COURSE?
A Fostering Faith Certification Course consists of ten clock hours in a particular area of study. There are five courses in Fostering Faith. Most sites offer the ten hours spread our over four weeks (2.5 hours each night). You’ll notice that some sites, however, are offering the option of completing the course in two weeks (5 hours each day).
WHO PARTICIPATES IN FOSTERING FAITH CATECHIST CERTIFICATION?
FFCC is primarily for catechists who work with children, teens or adults in parish or school settings, but FFCC courses are also open to any adults who wish to further.
HOW DOES FFCC SERVE THE DIVERSE ETHNIC COMMUNITIES OF CHICAGO?
In addition to providing quality presentations at many convenient locations, FFCC also offers courses in three languages (English, Polish and Spanish) as well as sites that are open to all but serve from a unique cultural perspective such as the Catching the Spirit sites (Afro-centric perspective). Presenters at these sites represent the gifted catechetical expertise of the particular ethnic community while participants bring with them the rich experience and traditions of their culture.
WHAT IS CATCHING THE SPIRIT?
Fostering Faith / Catching the Spirit addresses the vision of catechesis for the Black Catholic community.
WHAT IS FOSTERING FAITH / "WYCHOWUJĄC W WIERZE"?
WHAT IS FOSTERING FAITH / "FOMENTANDO LA FE"?
Fostering Faith/Fomentado la Fe está diseñado para formar a todos los/as catequistas parroquiales desde la perspectiva y visión hispana.
WHO ARE THE PRESENTERS?
The faculty for FFCC includes coordinators from the Office for Catechesis and Youth Ministry, parish Directors of Religious Education, and parish Pastoral Ministers with expertise in the various curriculum areas.
DO I HAVE TO BRING ANYTHING?
Students are always welcome (but not required) to bring a Bible, a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and a notebook/ paper and pen for taking notes.
WHO SUBMITS THE RECORDS FOR CATECHIST CERTIFICATION?
The individual students keep attendance records on the Parish Catechist Formation Log (available on the OFCYM website). Students notify the parish catechetical leader (DRE, CRE or CYM) when the five FFCC courses, ten hours each, have been completed. The catechetical leader submits application for catechists to the OFCYM.
WHAT IS THE CATECHIST OF CERTIFICATION RENEWAL PROCESS?
All catechists are required to renew their certification every five years following initial certification. Catechist are required to complete fifty hours of ongoing formation over a period of five years, ten hours in each curriculum area to renew their certification. At the time of renewal, the catechetical leader sends the appropriate records of formation and applications with a five dollar certification renewal fee.
Our prayer is that you may be inspired to enthusiastically proclaim the Word of God!
