San Jose Obrero Mission

ATTENTION – San Jose Obrero Shelter has lost its funding and was forced to close its doors in February 2018.  They are planning to re-apply for funding in May and hope to re-open.  Please check back then for an update.

St. Giles is one of several suburban parishes which participates in a program to serve meals to homeless individuals at the Casa San Jose Obrero Shelter in Chicago.

Parish volunteers cook and serve dinner every other Wednesday for the homeless men at the San Jose Obrero Mission in Chicago. Teams of people alternate cooking and serving dinner for anywhere from 25-40 men, leaving Oak Park about 5:45 pm, serving dinner at 7 pm, and then returning home by 8 pm on these Wednesdays.

People can volunteer to: buy a salad, drinks or paper goods; cook a pan of pasta; and/or serve dinner.
