RE 7th and 8th Graders Experienced Taizé Prayer

January 2023

In January 2023, the 7th and 8th Grade Students in the Religious Education Program have talked about prayer and experienced Taizé Prayer: a distinctive style of meditative prayer developed by an ecumenical community of monks in rural France. This reflective prayer combines music and scripture, candles and silence in hopes of deepening a person’s connection to God.

These are some of the comments from the students regarding what they learned: – That there are different ways to pray and different types of prayer! – The meaning of prayer and how it can change you! – That God will always love us and watch over us! – That prayer is a love song to God! – Praying isn’t just talking, it’s listening! – That the Holy Spirit is with you when you pray!

The students also learned about Vices and Virtues. They talked not only about what each one means but also what are some specific behaviors that might lead them to make good decisions in their lives.
