Senior Christmas Party 2016

December 14, 2016

Good News For Mother Earth – The movement to become a more sustainable parish enjoyed another step forward at the St. Giles Seniors’ Christmas party, December 14. John and Marirose Ferrara Mullin who serve on the St. Giles Sustainability Committee, were on hand to guide the party-goers in separating reusable, recyclable, and compost material from trash when clearing their tables. The results were remarkable, and a lot was learned by all who attended that event.

Our parish committee works in consultation with Mindy Agnew of the village’s “Keep Oak Park Beautiful” effort and co-founder of “Together Offering Sustainable Solutions Group”.

It is interesting to note that the daily reflection for December 14 provided in the 2016 parish Advent booklet was based on the reading from Isaiah (45:6-25) that speaks to God’s intention for the earth. Author, Ann M. Garrido, suggested that after attending to the Scripture reading and the reflection she offered, her readers take a concrete action on behalf of the environment. How fitting for the St. Giles Seniors to have participated in this initiative on that particular day!
