School May Crowning and Visit from F.C.N. 2017

May 8, 2017

Last Monday, May 8, 2017 our school children gathered in church for their May Crowing ceremony. It is always so touching to watch the first communicants process in followed by the eighth graders who will soon be graduating. They came forward and place flowers in vases at the foot of the statue of Mary.

Karina Valdes crowned the statue of the Blessed Mother while Jake Staggs assisted. Second grade honor guard was provided by Will Daly, Myka Matykiewicz, Roman Povilaitis, Eleanora Galavotti, Jack Brewer, and Brin Matykiewicz. Mrs. Rosemary Kufta, in her homily, commented on the many names we have for the Blessed Mother.

The choir, under the direction of Nicole Tuma and Sue Kaszynski sang the Litany of Loretto and the jazzed up version of “Hail Holy Queen.” The eighth graders looked demure as they brought their flowers to be presented to Our Lady. The second grade first communion class in all of their finery attended the Blessed Mother statue.

At the service we had some special visitors: Dr. Geetha and her husband Tom were here visiting from India. They are the founders of Foundation for Children in Need, or F.C.N. This year, during Lent, the children raised money to buy beds for the children cared for by F.C.N. They raised $1,982!! The bunk beds cost $100 to make. F.C.N. will be able to buy 19 beds which will provide 38 children a cozy and comfortable place to sleep!

It was wonderful to have Dr. Geetha and Tom see the students, say a few words about their mission and thank them personally for their generous contribution. The parish also collected another $3,800 to support the F.C.N. mission. It was a prayerful and inspiring time together.

With Mary as our guide and spiritual mother, we pray for her help to stay close to the heart of her son, Jesus. Love for God and a desire to follow the example of Jesus by caring for our brothers and sisters in India was very evident at the service of the School May Crowning.
