RMC – Welcome to Fr. Robert Carlton!

Fr. Robert Carlton is joining the Oak Park Catholic community as an Associate Pastor to the newly unified Ascension-St. Edmund Parish and to the newly unified St. Catherine of Siena-St. Lucy and St. Giles Parish.

Fr. Robert Carlton was ordained in May of 2019 by Cardinal Cupich for the Archdiocese of Chicago. Originally from Evanston, he attended Loyola Academy for high school and then Georgetown University in Washington DC. Following college, he served in the Navy for four years as a surface warfare officer on two ships in Florida where he was also on the US Navy running team. After that, he taught high school English and theology for five years at Fordham Prep in New York, where he was also an assistant coach on the cross country and track teams. He entered Mundelein Seminary for the Chicago Archdiocese in the fall of 2014. In addition to completing the academic program, he coached track and taught religion at Carmel High School, tutored at St. Martin de Porres High School in Waukegan, was a hospital chaplain for a summer at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and completed a summer language immersion at the Working Boys Center in Quito, Ecuador. After ordination, he has served as the associate pastor at St. John Brebeuf in Niles and Immaculate Conception in Chicago and has also worked as the Catholic chaplain at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago. At IC, Fr. Carlton was a coach for the football, basketball and track teams. Fr. Carlton is an avid runner and cyclist and a reader of biographies. He is very excited about the opportunity to work with and get to know the people at the parishes in Oak Park.
