Second Collection – September 18-19, 2021
During the weekend of September 18-19, there will be a second collection at all Masses for the Seminary Education Fund. This Fund provides support for men studying for the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Chicago. It helps to cover the cost of educating each seminarian as he proceeds through the various stages of formation before ordination as a priest.
Please be as generous as you are able. You could also contribute online BY CLICKING HERE.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
We take time this weekend to recognize, celebrate and support the thirty-three seminarians who are preparing for lives of service to the Archdiocese of Chicago. The Church needs pastoral, compassionate and well-trained priests now more than ever, especially in light of the last year that saw not only the global pandemic we’ve endured, but also so much social unrest and suffering. Our young priests will face these issues and more as they walk with us through the most important moments of our lives, lending their wisdom and support. It is our responsibility to train them well.
At Masses throughout the Archdiocese this weekend, we are asking for both your encouragement and prayers for our seminarians as well as your financial support to help defray our Archdiocesan cost of their educational expenses, which includes tuition and fees, room and board and health insurance.
Your generosity to this annual Seminarian Education second collection funds the formation of our seminarians at both the University of Saint Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary and at Saint John Vianney College Seminary in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Your contributions to this collection will make a significant impact on the formation of Chicago seminarians as they prepare for ordination and service as parish priests. They will be the shepherds leading you toward a deeper relationship with Christ by celebrating the sacraments and teaching the Catholic faith.
A remittance envelope will be placed at the back of the church during the weekend of September 19-20. You are also invited to send your donation to your parish, noting that it is for “Seminarian Education,” or make a gift online at www.archchicago.org/seminarianfund.
Another way to support vocations in the archdiocese is by encouraging young men to consider discerning the priesthood. Many current priests credit their vocation to personal invitations and conversations with loved ones and friends who recognized the potential in them.
On behalf of current and future archdiocesan seminarians, thank you.
May God continue to bless you abundantly. Please know that I keep you in my daily prayers and intentions, and I ask for yours in return.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Cardinal Blase J. Cupich
Archbishop of Chicago
