Annual Thanksgiving Dinners
The countdown has started – now only 1-1/2 weeks till Thanksgiving. The planning and preparation for the Annual Thanksgiving Dinner is under way, but to bring it to fulfillment you are needed. Only through your gracious donations can a complete Thanksgiving meal be delivered to others in need.
Please take note of a few changes – This year our focus is only on home deliveries. Therefore, all preparing and packaging of meals will be centralized right here at St. Giles in McDonough Hall. Also, we are asking for donations of specific desserts – either pumpkin or apple pie, cookies or brownies – and that these desserts be delivered to McDonough Hall on Tuesday, November 20 between 4 pm and 7 pm (This will allow time to pre-package them on Wednesday).
Would you provide a thoroughly cooked turkey (no stuffing)? The turkey should be cooked the day before, refrigerated and delivered cold on Thanksgiving morning to McDonough Hall between 8:00 and 9:30 am (Wendy has some specific directions on the cooking time for your turkey. She can email it to you). If you are providing a vegetable dish – either green beans or green bean casserole, pan of sweet potatoes or cooked corn, bring it to McDonough Hall between 8 am and 10 am Thanksgiving day. For food donations or questions, contact Wendy Planek – email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 708-524-9083. Or, go to our Sign-Up Genius to let us know what you will be bringing:
Many delivery people will be needed on Thanksgiving morning. Can you spare a few hours between 11:15 am and 1 pm? Please contact Sue Schreck at 312-834-1604.
Not be around on Thanksgiving Day? We can use your help for a few hours on the days before. Help will be needed setting-up McDonough Hall and packaging food. The days and times are as follows:
Monday, November 19 – between 4 pm and 8 pm;
Tuesday, November 20 – between 3 pm and 9 pm;
Wednesday, November 21 – between 12 Noon and 6 pm;
Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, November 22 – between 8 am to 2 pm
For additional information or if there are questions, call Barb or Dick Schulz 773-622-2121. If you know of someone who could use a Thanksgiving dinner, call the Parish Center at 708-383-3430.
Thank you, for it is only through your help that the Annual St. Giles’ Thanksgiving Dinner can continue!!!
