Jubilee 2025 – Pilgrims of Hope
We are excited for Jubilee Year 2025, a time of grace, renewal, and celebration for Catholics around the world! This special Jubilee, declared by Pope Francis, calls us to reflect on God’s boundless mercy and embrace our mission to live out the Gospel in everyday life.
Here in the Archdiocese of Chicago, we will join with the Universal Church in prayer and pilgrimage throughout the year. Cardinal Cupich opened the Jubilee Year locally by celebrating a special Mass at Holy Name Cathedral on December 29, 2024, at 12:30 pm. Throughout the year, from December 29, 2024 through December 28, 2025, all will be invited to participate in the Jubilee by visiting designated Pilgrimage Sites. The list of designated Pilgrimage Sites and additional information can be found clicking on the button below.

WORLD DAY OF PEACE – HOPE – JANUARY 1
Every year on January 1, the Holy Father marks the World Day of Peace with a special message inviting all people to reflect on the important work of building peace. On this occasion, Popes generally make authoritative declarations on the Catholic Social Teachings (C.S.T.). The Pope and the Vatican Church stress the need to care and share tolerance for each other, and to create a society that focuses on good moral values and does not yield to the temptation to disregard others.
This year’s message is the latest in a long tradition of messages for this day that began with Saint Paul VI in 1967 and continued with Saint John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI, and Pope Francis. The theme of Pope Francis’ message for the 58th World Day of Peace is “Forgive us our trespasses: grant us your peace.” Hope, which also characterizes the Jubilee Year, is the primary theme of the message for 2025. Pope Francis invites us to look at the many challenges that severely endanger the survival of humanity and creation with a heart full of hope.
To do this, it is necessary to rely on God’s mercy. By His forgiving our debts, we will rediscover ourselves as children of the Father, and therefore all brothers and sisters, united on the path of peace.
PRAYER FOR JUBILEE YEAR
Father in heaven, may the faith you have given us in your son, Jesus Christ, our brother, and the flame of charity enkindled in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, reawaken in us the blessed hope for the coming of your Kingdom.
May your grace transform us into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel. May those seeds transform from within both humanity and the whole cosmos in the sure expectation of a new heaven and a new earth, when, with the powers of Evil vanquished, your glory will shine eternally.
May the grace of the Jubilee reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope, a yearning for the treasures of heaven. May that same grace spread the joy and peace of our Redeemer throughout the earth. To you our God, eternally blessed, be glory and praise for ever. Amen.
