Advent Circle Garden

December 12-16, 2021

The Advent Circle Garden was open to all in McDonough Hall – The Advent Circle Garden is a unique, meditative Advent experience. The origin of this practice is from the Waldorf method of education: a number of years ago, some catechists from the Family Mass Community adapted the ritual for the children in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.

One walks in the spiral, one at a time, in silence, carrying a candle. Along the spiral’s path, one can reflect on the beauty and bounty of God’s creation, the words of the Prophets, and the biblical narratives of Jesus’ infancy. As one walks back out of the spiral, they may choose a place to set their candle down, adding their own light to the garden. All who gather around the garden share in the contemplative silence.
