FOOD COLLECTION & DELIVERY TO LOCAL PANTRIES!
Non-perishable food and toiletry items are now being collected again in covered plastic tubs at the rear covered door of the Parish Center (north side at 1025 Columbian) for several food pantries in our area – St. Martin DePorres, Vital Bridges and Santa Maria Addolorata, along with Catholic Charities in Cicero and Fraternité Notre Dame in Austin.
Love in Action, a high school ministry program at St. Giles, has partnered with the team that is collecting and delivering food to the local pantries. The purpose of this youth program is to empower and support teens in creating opportunities for outreach, engagement and service in our local community through a variety of community partners.
DROP OFF ITEMS AT THE PARISH CENTER
Donations of canned or shelf-stable dry goods and paper products to the covered bins located at the back door on the north side of the Parish Center at 1025 Columbian. Members of Love in Action and the staff are regularly emptying the bins and bringing the donations inside to prepare them for delivery.
Toiletry items such as: Toilet Paper and Paper Towels, Toothpaste, Soap, Shampoo, Deodorant and Personal Hygiene Products.
Most food needed items: Canned fruits and vegetables, Canned or dried beans, Mac-N-Cheese, Rice, Pasta, Oatmeal and breakfast cereals, Canned tuna, chicken, and other meats/fish, Canned soups, stews, chili, pasta sauces, Peanut butter, and Powdered milk.
PREPARE A DONATION FOR PICK UP
Are you not able to get your food items to St. Giles, but have things to donate? On Wednesday at 2 pm, volunteers run a pick-up route through our community. Email your name and address to email@example.com and we will add you to our list for the week. Emails need to be received by Wednesday at 9 am to be included that week’s pick-up.
FOOD DELIVERY & PICK UP
We need volunteers that can drive to either:
- Deliver a load of food (collected at St.Giles) to local pantries. To volunteer for this, text @icandrive to 81010 to get on the driver list.
- Sign up to drive for weekly food pick-up in our community on Wednesday any time after 2 pm. By no later than 10 am on Wednesday mornings, you will receive the list of names and addresses for your pick up route. SIGN-UP HERE TO PARTICIPATE!
SORT AND SECURE COLLECTED ITEMS OVER THE WEEKEND
Over the weekend, our parish staff is not around to help in transferring collected food items into our pop-up pantry in the teen space. Bins need to be checked in the afternoon & evening on Saturday and Sunday. To volunteer for this, SIGN-UP HERE.
If you are interested in getting involved, EMAIL US at firstname.lastname@example.org.
