This is a Lenten Outreach Opportunity that starts on Ash Wednesday (FEBRUARY 22, 2023) and ends on Palm Sunday (APRIL 2, 2023) each year. The shoeboxes are donated to various Outreach Organizations, including the Franciscan Outreach.
The purpose is to fill a shoebox or a comparable-size container (you provide the container) with a variety of the following suggested items to be given to an Outreach Association: Tube Socks – Hotel Size Soap and Shampoo – Deodorant – Brush and/or Comb – Wash/Face Cloth – Toothbrush and Toothpaste – Hand Lotion – Kleenex (personal size) – Disposable razor – Shaving gel/cream – Baby Powder – Plastic rain poncho – Small towel – Other small items – Gift Card from McDonald’s, Burger King, etc. (not to exceed $10.00)
Please be sure to include these two items: Word Search or Crossword Puzzle Book (with Pen or Pencil) and some wrapped Easter candy.
When a shoebox is filled, you can decorate it (if you choose to do so) or just put a rubber band around it. Be sure to mark the box either “Man” or “Woman”. Place it on the last bench in Church or drop it off at the Parish Center. Then during Holy Week all the Easter Sunrise Shoeboxes will be delivered to the various locations so that they can be distributed on Easter.
